Tortillas are an essential part of Mexican cuisine and are perfect for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, or as a side dish to your favorite dishes. With just a few ingredients and simple steps, you'll be able to make fresh, soft, and delicious tortillas in no time that your family and friends will love.
For this recipe you need the following ingredients:
1 pack of KUSTURA “PIZZA&MEHR” baking mix (gluten-free, organic, vegan)
700 ml water
optionally some salt
some potato starch for flouring
olive oil
Makes 10 tortillas
Preparation:
Take a medium to large pot and bring the water to a boil. When it's boiling, simply pour the entire package of "PIZZA&MEHR" into the water and mix quickly and thoroughly with a wooden spoon. (If you want to use salt, you'll need to mix it with the baking mix beforehand.) Stir the mixture with a spoon until a dough forms. Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes and then pour it onto a floured surface (I used potato starch, but you can also use rice flour or tapioca starch).
Now shape the dough with your hands, cut it into 10 equal pieces, and form them into 10 equal-sized balls. Place one piece of dough in the center of a floured piece of baking paper, dust with flour, and flatten with the palm of your hand. Roll out with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 2 mm, flouring again if necessary. To achieve the perfect tortilla shape, take a large saucepan lid and use it as a cutter.
Now cook the tortillas over high heat in an oiled frying pan until browned to your liking on both sides (approx. 2-4 minutes). When you flip the tortilla, the dough will expand nicely and form the typical air bubbles.
